Isak Hall

Biography

Isak Hall is a true master and innovator when it comes to his craft: he produces ethereal and otherworldly landscapes by blending ancient techniques with modern methods to create art that transcends time and space. His work is characterized by the use of precious pigments, tempera, oil, and varnish on panel, inspired by the craftsmanship of Renaissance masters. The worlds Hall creates on canvas, while familiar, are visions of an imagined place that stretch beyond reality. Here, light and shadow dance in a perpetual state of transformation, inviting viewers to explore the depths of their own imagination.

Hall's artistic journey is a continuous exploration of the unknown, each new exhibition representing a chapter in his ongoing atlas of work. His recent series, including "Northern Transcendence," "Temple Series," and "Atlas," reflect his fascination with the interplay between light and dark, and the mystical qualities of nature. His latest works continue this exploration, presenting enigmatic and luminous compositions that challenge conventional perceptions of landscape art.

Hall's meticulous technique involves layering various materials to achieve a unique depth and luminosity. He draws inspiration from historical texts and recipes, using pigments like ultramarine ash and special glazes to create a spectral grey lustre reminiscent of Dürer's paintings. His dedication to his craft is evident in the painstaking process of building layers upon layers, each adding to the complexity and beauty of the final piece.

Apart from exhibiting with CFHILL, Hall created critically acclaimed exhibitions for Uppsala Cathedral, as well as Bror Hjorts Museum in Uppsala, exploring themes of light, reflection, and the dissolution between the earthly and the heavenly. Hall's ability to combine historical techniques with contemporary themes makes his work a unique and profound exploration of the human spirit's quest for understanding.
