Vessels filled with longing and lunacy
– Congratulations to your exhibition, Liselotte Watkins!
This summer Liselotte Watkins was invited to present a series of sculptures at Villa San Michele, Capri, the home of the eccentric but hospitable doctor Axel Munthe (1875-1949). Many were the ladies of society who sought him in his time and many are the stories. Liselotte’s sculptures represent these women, their dreams and their longing. They are placed alongside Munthe’s objects and artworks. Standing in the garden of San Michele, the ladies gaze out over the sea, filled with longing for what is still unknown.
As featured in the New York Times T Magazine:
"Entitled “Sbiadito,” or sun-faded, like the timeworn statuary of the villa’s loggia that houses her works, her show features a series of Watkins’s vases, reclaimed from flea markets and painted with her signature Cubist women in a pastel palette."
